Final Advert
This is our final advert which i think has turned out really well. We decided to use the same pattern behind one of the photographs taken from the digipak. It works well with the cover of the cd being at the bottom because then they relate to eachother. The name 'Katy Perry' and the name of the album 'One Of The Boys' is in bubble writing to make it stand out more and it is also the same bubble writing we used on the front of the digipak for her name so it matches.
Final Digipak
This is our final digipak which has changed a lot from the two drafts that we made. I decided to take a template digipak from google as this helped me with where i needed to place all of my photographs as it told me which was the front cover and which was the back cover. I think the patterned background used behind each photograph works really well and makes it more interesting and eye catching for the audience. The colours used aren't too bright but are still a girly kind of pop colour. We decided to use these kind of purples as they match the colour of the girls dress. We also included our record label next to our name up the side and decided to number the songs on the back because it is easier for the audience to pick a number instead of having to count them all the time.

Draft Digipak 2
This is our second draft digipak. It has turned out better than the first one but still doesnt look eye catching. The background which we changed to black works better than plain white but i still think it needs to be a different colour. The resolution was also set wrong on Photoshop which is why each photograph looks stretched so when we create our final digipak we need to make sure the resolution is set high enough so the photographs dont stretch. I think the digipak may work better if each photograph had the same background behind. We could do this by overlaying a pattern that we create and putting the opacity down. For our final digipak we also need to include our record label and the copyright. I dont think the colour we have used for the cd and back cover work very well with the rest of the digipak because it looks too bright. I think it would look better if we changed the colour to the same as the dress the girl is wearing.
Draft Digipak 1
This is our first draft digipak which hasn't turned out very well so we are going to do some more experimenting. Photoshop wasn't set up correctly as the resolution needed to be 700 which is the reason the photographs have gone blury. The digipak needs more text including the name of the artist, the name of the album up the side and the name of our record label. We also need to include our record label on the back where the names of the songs are. I think the back would look better a different colour, it may look good to use the same colour as the girls dress and i think the text should be placed in the middle and maybe numbered .

Final Cut
This is my final music video which i think overall has turned out really well. I have changed a lot after looking back at the rough cuts as i knew it needed improving a lot. There are now no gaps and i have put in more thought beats as it is a very upbeat song. I also changed the part where i overlayed a clip of the main star with a clip of the arcades as i have put in more thought beats by using different shots of the main star looking angry. I have also added new footage as i filmed more in the studio location, as i said in the annotation of my third rough cut about filming some extreme close ups of the main star's mouth when singing i added some of these too.

Draft Advert 1
This is the first draft advert we made. I don't think it has turned out very well and doesn't look like it would be found in a magazine to sell this song. To improve this i think more colour should be added to fit in with the chosen genre. The writing on the advert needs to stand out more so it is more eye catching, for example a bright colour such as pink could be used and this would also match the colour of the flowers if this image is going to be used on the final advert. There are also other photographs we are going to experiment with to see if they look better as an advert.

November Plans
This slide shows the plans we had for November which we followed very well and did what each day says.

Rough Cut 2
The second rough cut shows our whole song but includes a lot of gaps which we need to fill. It also includes our new footage from the arcades where we filmed at. More shots have been added to show some more thought beats but there still needs to be more added. For the final cut i plan to add some white flashes during some shots to show more thought beats.

Photo Shoot Contact Sheet
The first two photographs which are circled in red on this page are possibly going to be used on the final digipak. They need editing using Photoshop if they are going to be used in the final piece as they both need cropping and brightening up.
The photograph at the bottom of this page which has been circled mainly stands out to me and i think this could maybe used on our advert and digipak.
The photographs taken using bubbles turned out really well. The ones i have circled are our most successful ones. The second photograph circled on this page stands out the most. It is really interesting and i like the way she is looking up to the bubbles whilst blowing them at the same time.
We tried a different idea with these photographs by adding a mirror into it. Some of them were successful but i don't think these kind of photographs would be seen on a digipak with the genre pop.
I don't think the final photographs on this page are going to be used for our digipak because of the angle they have been taken from and actions that are happening in each photograph.

Rough Cut 1
This is our first rough cut which shows 1:30 seconds of our filming. Upto now it has turned out ok but some refilming needs to be done and there needs to be more cuts to the beat known as thought beats. At the beginning these thought beats as shown really well as it changed from the boy to the girl but once the song starts with lyrics the pace needs to be shown more by the use of editing with different shots. Some of the lip sync is also out of sync so this needs to be matched up. However, i think one of the shots is wrong as the girl is singing the words too slow so this needs to be refilmed. Later on in the song, some of the shots that have been taken in the restaurant are too dark so can't be used because brightening them up doesn't work as it looks too different to the rest of the shots in the restaurant.

Hannah's Shot Count Activity
The video I have chosen for my shot count is Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen’s ‘It’s always a good time’ this fits into the genre of pop which is my groups choice of genre for our own music video. Jepsen is typically a pop artist, most famous for the song ‘Call me maybe’ released in February 2012 reaching the number one spot in over 19 countries. Owl City however can be fitted into the genre of electronic/powerpop, which is similar to pop, with ‘Fireflies’ hitting the pop singles chart in July 2009.
The video ‘Its always a good time’ has approximately 128 camera shots which range from a close up to a tracking shot. For this activity I watched a music video of my choice, which was of the same genre as my coursework, and counted how many times there was a different shot. Stereotypically pop songs will always have close up of the artists this coincides with Goodwin’s theory which states that the industry (pop) all music videos will have ‘Star image’ this is a good way of selling the product to the target audience. The pop genre stereotypically will have very upbeat music, which has thought beats to match; thought beats are where the music matches the edit. In this music video there are lots of thought beats such as in the forest on the night when the music gets very upbeat the edit gets faster and more jumpy just like the dancers.
Hannah's Magazine Advert Analysis
The advert I have chosen to analyse is for Katy Perry's album 'One Of The Boys' including the hit single 'I Kissed A Girl'. I have chosen this advert because it has the characteristics of the genre of pop featured and also the artist is part of the pop genre. In this advert the artists name is clear and brightly shown at the top right of the advert this is a man focus for people looking at the advert. The bright colours used for the name and the font used reflects the fun aspect of the advert. The style of the font is the trademark for the artist Katy Perry, this shows the artist wants to project a fun and happy image with all of her work. The mise en scene of the advert suggests innocence with the use of the paddling pool with rubber ducks and also the love heart lolly pop which the artist is holding. The artist is shown to be in the centre left half of the screen. The body language of the artist is shown to be slightly mischievous and could suggest she is hiding something by the fact she is holding one hand behind her back. The facial expression of the artist is quite serious and is juxtaposed with the innocence and fun that is being projected by the mise en scene.
The other writing used in the advert is in simple white and plain font which shows that this writing is only for informing the readers and not to entertain like the other font used for the artists name. In a smaller font at the lower right quarter of the advert we can see that there is a web address which is for the Katy Perry official fan page. The inclusion of the web address could be used to traffic people to the stars page to get more exposer.
The mise en scene of the advert is quite idealistic as there is the white picket fence and a paddling pool with the accent of a perfectly neat garden, which is sometimes referred to as 'The American Dream' this is a juxtaposition with the text of the advert as the title of the hit song 'I Kissed A Girl' is the opposite of the idealistic American Dream. The star was brought up in a very Christian environment and taught that homosexuality was an abomination this hit single could be seen as a rebellious act which could be highlighted by the mischievous look shown on the artists face in the advert. The white and plain font used for all of the information could be related to the white picket fence as it is plain and simple and idealistic.
Recce Shots 3
This is a shot of the two actors used in the music video.
This is a shot of the main star of our music video sat at the table at our restaurant location.
This shot was taken during filming so shows the characters in the middle of acting.

Digipak Experimentation
For my digipak experimentation i decided to follow the grunge photoshop tutorial. I think it turned out ok. However, it wouldn't be used for our genre of song which is pop because pop digipaks usually involve more colour as they are brighter to attract their target audience. The techniques i learnt whilst following this photoshop tutorial will be helpful when making one which goes with our song. Overlapping images is easy and changing the opacity makes every layer show through which i think will maybe something we will use when creating the real one. I also learnt how to add text in Photoshop which we will definitely need to be able to do for our final piece.

Green Screen Test Footage
This is the test footage we have taken using the green screen. We decided to use this to experiment and see if it would work with a background that we liked. The restaurant we are filming in is mostly brown colours so we decided to use a brown colour background as it wont look too different and odd in the video. The test footage looks ok but we decided that if we are going to use the green screen in our final video then we will change the background to something different to the one we used on here.

Recce Shots 2
We decided to film some test footage in the green screen studio. These photographs show the background we tested with when filming.

Recce Shots
This photograph shows the where the person would stand when acting in the music video with a blank screen behind her.
This is the tv screen which shows the background which has been put behind the person in the music video and it helps that it is facing the person in the video so they can see the position they are in when filming.
These 3 photographs are pictures of the camera used which helps get different shots. It allows you to zoom in and out and move it around.
These are the computers and buttons used to film and edit the backgrounds that will be used. We decided to test it out with this sunset background which is a video playing on loop. This means it would play through the whole song.

Inspirational Videos
I have decided to look at this video by Taylor Swift as the narrative is between a boy and a girl which is what our music video is going to show. The girl in this video is singing as if she is talking to the boy whilst being angry which is what our song is about.
This music video is filmed in a restaurant and we are using a restaurant as one of our locations so this music video helps us with props and a range of shots.
Katy Perry makes a range of different music videos and this one has a narrative to it which is why i have looked at it because we want our music video to have a narrative.
This music video by Jessie J is filmed using a green screen which is one of our ideas. We have looked at it because the movement used by both the main star and the camera works well together.

Audience Profile
The target audience for our song 'If You Can Afford Me' by Katy Perry would be teenagers of both genders. This is because it is a very upbeat song by a popular artist that would be typically aimed at teenagers.
This is Beth, who as you can see is a Katy Perry fan so our music video would definitely be aimed towards her. She is a 17 year old student who listens to mainly pop music. Whilst during college work and revising for exams Beth would have music on in the background. Her favourite pop artist is Katy Perry and she owns every album of hers. When she was at Katy Perry's concert she got chosen to go on stage and dance with Katy as shown on the photograph above.
On a typical day Beth would be seen wearing a dress, shorts, jeans etc. In the first photograph shown on this page she is shown wearing a blouse.
This is Beth's playlist which is taken from spotify. The songs on this playlist are all pop which include artists like Beyonce, Katy Perry, Rihanna etc.

Lyrics if you can afford me from alice12345
This is the lyrics breakdown i created which shows the timing that each line is sung in the song. It has made me think of different camera shots i can use and when they would come in during the song.

Music Video Analysis - Rihanna Only Girl In The World
Genre
The genre of Rihanna’s music video ‘Only Girl in the World’ is dance/pop. This is because it is a very upbeat song and it involves a lot of choreographed dancing by the main star Rihanna. This song Only Girl in the World was the first to be completed for her album Loud.
Narrative
The narrative of this music video is of Rihanna saying she wants to be someone's 'Only Girl In The World'. This is why she is the only person in this video and is also acting flirty whilst singing. She is shown as if she is in her own world which is a big field on her own showing she wants someone who will care about her. Towards the end of the music video Rihanna is shown looking really happy jumping around with fireworks in the background. This could show she has found someone who is going to treat her like 'The Only Girl In The World' or it could also show that this would be her reaction when she has found someone. This music video supports Tim O'Sullivan et al's theory about media texts tell us some kind of story because it is telling a story from Rihanna's point of view.

Representation
This music video shows representation of women who don't have a partner and who want someone who will love them and take care of them.
This music video shows representation of women who don't have a partner and who want someone who will love them and take care of them.
Media Language
There are many different camera shots shown during this music video. A lot of close ups of the main star Rihanna are used which matches Goodwin's theory about 'Star Image'.
There aren't many editing techniques used within this video. Towards the end Rihanna is shown dancing around with lots of fireworks in the background which i think have been edited in as they are really bright and unrealistic because she is shown as if she is jumping in the sky with them.
Thought beats are used during the chorus when it starts to get very upbeat. This works really well with the kind of music used for the song.

Mise en scene has been used a lot during this music video. The clothes that Rihanna wear are to show her 'star image' and attract males. The locations she is shown in are also very random as they make her look like she is the 'Only Girl In The World' shown is some sort of field full of flowers. The digipak which shows the album that this song comes from also uses the same locations as the photographs used which show Rihanna is in the same place as in the video.
Audience
Audience
This music video is aimed more towards the male gender as the title of the song is 'Only Girl In The World' and it only includes the main artist who is Rihanna. This supports Laura Mulvey's 'Gaze theory' as the girl is shown to attract men. This music video could also be aimed towards the female gender as it could show how some women feel about not having someone important to them in their life.
Digipak Analysis - Rihanna Loud
Digipak Analysis
I have chosen to analyse Rihanna’s digipak to the album Loud. I have decided to analyse this as the artist fits in well with the genre I have chosen, pop.
The title of the album is ‘Loud’ and the colours used relate to this because they are bright and bold. Rihanna’s music is very upbeat which is why I think she uses these kinds of colours. Many of her songs are about love which is the reason there is a lot of red involved in this digipak. However, the text on this digipak isn't very noticeable and is very plain. I think this is because she is a already a very well known artist and wants the main image on the cover to stand out more. The text and images used on this digipak work very well together. The text is very plain so doesnt stand out much which is why it goes with the images. The way they are at the top and bottom of the front cover makes the main image stand out more. The layout of the inside of the digipak also relates to the main image on the front. The same colours are used and there is one photograph spread between three frames which looks really good. The design on the CD's inside this digipak also relates to the other images used. Both CD's have an image of a rose which looks like it is from the image on the inside of the digipak where Rihanna is pictured with roses. The music video to one of Rihanna's songs 'Only Girl In The World' is also related to this digipak because in the music video Rihanna has the same colour hair and makeup on and she is also videoed in a field of roses the same which is on the photo on the inside of the digipak.

Magazine Advert Analysis - Jessie J
Magazine Advert Analysis - Jessie J
Magazine articles that advertise pop artists use conventions such as a photo of the artist, bold text, bright colours etc. However, some magazine articles that advertise pop artists sometimes advertise tour dates, reviews about the artist, information on the artists album or even competitons.
This magazine article that i am analysing is advertising Jessie J, a very well know pop artist. This article was made when Jessie J was first in the music industry as it is only advertising her first album. Most of the article is of the medium close up of Jessie J. This is to show the audience who she is and shows a little bit of her appearance. There is a lot of bold colours used in this article. A lot of the colour black is used which tells us more about Jessie J as she isnt the typical pop artist that people would think of as she is very different in her own way. Her appearance also fits in with many of her songs as some of them are upbeat and some of them are quite slow.
The writing used in the magazine article stands out a lot especially the name of the artist. Jessie J is the biggest text to show the audience who she is as it stands out more. Also the colour of the writing stands out and is different as people wouldnt think to use gold in a magazine article. The other writing on the magazine article is advertising her debut album and it also mentions the very popular song 'Price Tag' as sometimes people know a song if it has been played on the radio a lot but may not know who the artist is who sings it. The article also advertises Jessie J's website so if people want more information they can log onto that website and find out more.
At the bottom of the article there are two small logos, one at each side. These are typical conventions of a magazine article for a pop artist as they are record labels. It shows the company who Jessie J is signed by and who publishes and releases her music.

Preliminary Task - Carly Rae Jepsen Call Me Maybe
Carly Rae Jepsen - Call Me Maybe - Lip Sync Task
This is our lip sync task we created at the start of second year. This was to see if we could lip sync and so we knew how to edit a video together on Final Cut Express HD.
Julian Opie Picture
Julian Opie Picture - Alice Gibson
This is the picture i made of myself using Photoshop in the style of Julian Opie. First i took a photo of myself using Photobooth so i could use it as my background. I opened this photo up into Photoshop and cropped it to the right size which deleted most of the background. I then created different layers. The first layer i created was hair. I used the lasso tool to trace around my hair then picked a colour from my hair which was suitable to fill it. I also did this for my face, arms, neck, top, eyebrows, lips, teeth, nose and eyes. However for the eyes i had to use the pencil tool to draw them in and then add the little white dot with an even smalled pencil.

Shot Count Task - Jessie J
Shot Count Task - Jessie J - Domino
I have chosen to analyse this music video because it fits in with the genre that i am going to create my music video with which is pop. I counted the amount of shots used in the first minutes which was 86 and multiplied it by 4 because the video is 4 minutes long so the amount of shots in the whole video would be 344.The song is very up beat which is why it has so many different camera shots used.
Domino supports the stereotypical pop music video and the most common shot used in this music video is a close up. This means it supports Andrew Goodwin's theory about the Star Image because close ups are used to show the star in the video which persuades the audience to watch it. Most of this music video is of the artist dancing which shows some typical conventions of pop music videos. The dance routine for this video will have been choreographed by a professional because it wouldn't look very good if the artist just made it up whilst filming. There is also a lot of bright bold colours used in this music video which match the stereotypical convention of a pop song.
There is also a lot of editing techniques used throughout the video because it is so fast so each shot has to lead to the next without just jumping quickly. Thoughtbeats are used with the song being so upbeat. I also think there is some handheld camera movements so it looks like the screen is moving to the music.
